HOPE | week 1 | Advent
December 2, 2018
Historically, the church has celebrated the four weeks of advent to mark the beginning of the liturgical calendar. During this season we remember the incarnation of the Eternal Son and look forward to His return when He will set the world to rights. Advent is a celebration of both remembrance and anticipation.
“Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”
-Matthew 1:23 (NKJV)
“The central miracle asserted by Christians is the Incarnation…
Every other miracle prepares for this, or exhibits this, or results from this…
It was the central event in the history of the Earth—the very thing that the whole story has been about.”
-CS Lewis (Miracles, chapter 14)
Each Sunday of Advent we focus on a different aspect of who JESUS is to us. He is our HOPE, LOVE, JOY, and PEACE. This week, Chad will be leading us in a celebration of JESUS, our living HOPE.
